What is for sale is a tooling set to convert spent 22lr cases into bullet jackets suitable for all center fire 224 bullet applications, such as 223, 22-250, 222, etc. The set consists of a die that mounts in standard reloading presses, (7/8-14 thread), and a ram that will mount in any press that has a 38/357 shellholder inserted. A spent 22lr case is inserted over the ram, a bit of lubricant applied to the case, and then the assembly is run through the die, in effect ironing out the rim of the case and providing a .2220"- .2225" bullet jacket of approx. .710" in length. These die assemblies have been made since WWII, when ammunition was unavailable for civilian use, and I am currently producing them for sale. In the second photo, you can see the die, the ram and the resulting finished product run through the die...the die set is for sale, the finished jackets pictured in the envelope are not included in the sale, as bullet components violate Ebay ammunition restrictions. All die sets are inspected and tested by me personally to ensure functional and dimensional accuracy.
There are a few simple considerations regarding the set up. First, the press you use should have compound leverage, like the larger RCBS models...single stage presses will work with a longer handle...a cheater bar. Secondly, the cases should be washed in soapy water, dried. Annealing the cases is recommended by some before forming bullet point in whatever die set you may be using, and annealing is recommended in single-stage presses, as it makes the jacket making process much easier...I test each die with un annealed brass. The annealing temp. is in the neighborhood of 850F(dull red in a dark room)...propane torch judiciously used should work. I have used several types of lube, both RCBS and Corbin...both work well. The .222 diameter jackets will upset to the correct .224" diameter when used in a bullet making die...this sale is for the die that makes the bullet jacket...the dies to finish the bullet are sold elsewhere.
This die set can save you tons of money if you are doing a lot of shooting. I am selling the set up for $50.00, buy it now, with free shipping anywhere in the US.
